Grad School!

1 min read
I got into graduate school at my first choice (and since the application to the other place wasn't finished yet and due today, I just didn't bother). I'm going for a masters in education and a single subject teaching credential. I will be very busy, but my notes will no doubt be full of doodles, and some of them might make it on here.

For the last lot of years, my drawing has been mostly confined to the margins of school notebooks and the post-its that are on the desk in my religion class. Then at some point, I drew a picture of a shark on a chalkboard at someone's house and realized how much I like the medium. I got out my black, white, and sanguine colored Cretacolor art leads, and later ended up buying a set of conté à Paris sketching crayons with black, white, sanguine, and bistre. The conté crayons remind me a lot of dry pastels, in that they are dryer and softer than the Cretacolor leads, but they also make a mess of my fingers and whatever part of the paper I touch. Mostly I wish I had a more yellow brown in addition to red brown and normal brown.

I added 46 deviations, mostly pictures I've taken in the last four years. I then deleted about two hundred of my old terrible deviations. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I put up like twenty pictures of a similar cloudy sky. All gone now. Time to make some new, better art! (When I'm not studying for midterms, doing homework, or writing summer research internship applications.)

Not that I'd forgotten it, I just never tried to log on since sometime in tenth grade. I became busy studying for AP European History, so I had to take a break from Deviantart. That break just never ended. I'm pretty impressed with my memory for remembering my password, even if I had to look up how to spell it.
Anyway, all the stuff in the journal entry that's been sitting there for what, five years now, is really old and it bugs me. I can run a mile faster than 6:30ish. I am also in college and only run sometimes. I am running a 10K next Saturday, so I should run more. There's just been too much homework recently. Thank goodness for fencing, or I wouldn't be getting any exercise at all.
I've taken thousands of pictures since I have last done anything on this, so I can put some of those up at some point so I don't have to look at my really old pictures when I go to my Deviantart page.
Besides some of my favorite photos, I have some crafts I've made recently. I made a Pinterest account and promptly discovered needle felting. I just finished making a woodpecker that clings to my wall. I've been making jewelry since I got my ears pierced. My drawing has been limited to the margins of my physics notes. Perhaps having a place to put finished artwork will motivate me to make some.
Stuff has happened in my life since five years ago. I graduated high school, I moved to college, I am majoring in physics, I minored in anthropology, and I am trying to learn to play the organ for my church. So far, I have just been playing piano, but I will see if I can get someone who knows how to play the organ to show me. I have the basic idea, but I would just like someone to make sure I am doing it right and correct technique for things like the foot pedals and tell me when to use the great manual and when to use the swell manual.

Yay, journal update time.
The track season has started and since I have sports PE this year I am able to do it. We just had our first meet last week.
I ran the 1600 meters and got 6:26.7 and the 800 meters and got 2:53.5. Oh, yay.
My legs got all frozen on the last 100 of the 800 because it was cold and I didn't have sweatpants but other than that it went well.
